Let's Get Started with the Free Edition

We wanted to make Quobyte simple from install through production. That’s why we made it easy for you to download and install anywhere, on any x86 server with Linux, at any time that’s convenient for you. That’s right. In just a few easy steps you could be enjoying all the benefits Quobyte has to provide.

Here is how:

1

Perform pre-flight checks:

  • You have at least 4 Linux machines or cloud VMs with a supported Linux distribution as storage servers. Check our recommended hardware and cloud VMs here.
  • One or more Linux machines/cloud VMs as client machines that access the file system. You can use machines as storage servers and clients.
  • You have a Linux machine to run the Quobyte installer
  • You can ssh from your Linux machine into the storage servers and clients
  • The storage servers and clients have internet access
  • There are no firewalls between or on the storage servers and client machines

2

Download and start the Quobyte installer. Copy the following snippet to your terminal and run it:

wget https://www.quobyte.com/install;bash install
3

Enter the list of IP addresses (or hostnames) of the machines you want to use as storage servers. Alternatively, you can provide the path to a file that has one IP/hostname per line.

4

Repeat step 3 with the IP addresses (or hostnames) of the client machines.

5

Wait until the Quobyte installer has completed the installation on all server and client machines.

6

The installer will tell you the URL of the Quobyte Webconsole for the next steps to finalize your installation.

7

Go to the Webconsole and enter the credentials for a new admin user.

8

In the next step you can configure the SMTP server that the cluster should use to send alerts and infos via email. You can skip this step and add the SMTP config later.

9

The final step is to add a license key. You can skip this step for now and signup for a Quobyte account later to get your Free Edition license key. You can start using Quobyte witout a license key for 7 days.

10

Format the drives on your storage servers.

11

Create a new volume.

12

Log into one of the client machines and start using your scale-out and fully fault tolerant Quobyte volume.

Like we said, it’s simple.

Prefer a manual install or have a cluster without internet access? No worries. Sign up for a free Quobyte account and check out all the documentation we have available to help you with this and also get access to other Quobyte related materials.
