NFS is NSFW anymore

By  Björn Kolbeck  on

It’s no secret that I don’t like the NFS protocol – it’s dated and is the root cause for the inability of many file storage products to scale. NFS has clearly failed at meeting the scale needs of users and applications, and in enabling appropriate data safety to address security, compliance, and availability.

It’s also worth pointing out that we should ditch the NFS protocol, but not necessarily the semantics of it. The protocol has severe shortcomings, but the good news is that it can easily be replaced without requiring application rewrites, as we have shown with Quobyte.

S3 too, for example, is great for some use-cases but a hard sell when application developers and users have to change their existing code.

With Quobyte, we bring unlimited performance and unconditional simplicity to your storage ecosystem. Check out our detailed article, published on TechRadar, here.
